Stephen Dick - Drums/Percussion/Instruction

Instruction - So How does it Work?

I have 2 teaching locations on each side of the North Shore to serve you wherever you are. Tom Lee Music is in the West Vancouver & Capilano area & Deep Cove Music is in the Seymour & Deep Cove area of North Vancouver.

I have digital/midi Roland V Drums for great play-along with music as well as acoustic drums & there are opportunities for performing & recording  in band settings also!

Drummers are Smarter - Really!!!

They call it the "Mozart Effect". A study completed at the University of California proves that even listening to complex music increases a persons spatial reasoning ability. The U.S. College Board claims that music students consistently score higher on their College entrance exams than their non-musical colleagues. It has to do with the formation of neural connections in the brain; the more neural connections there are, the smarter you are. Its that simple!

So there you have it. Learning the drums is a lot more than just a whole lot of fun!

Practice Makes Perfect!

You don't have to lock yourself away for 20 hours a day. In fact, with half an hour daily practice for beginners, virtually every student can succeed at some level. The trick is patience and persistence. Don't expect to be perfect on your first try.

As your teacher, I will develop a course that sees you progressing at a pace that suits you best.

To get the most out of your lessons you need to bring:

  • Your current drum books & sticks.
  • Any music from school band class.
  • A notebook for me to write practice notes in.

So What Kind of Music Will I Learn?

The Rhythm of the Street - Have you ever listened to the patterns of your footsteps? How many times have you snapped your fingers in time to the wipers on your family car? You will hear the rhythms you're learning in everyday music and everyday life.

At the beginning we will concentrate on basic skills and patterns. Youll be learning about how to read and play music using traditional music theory. As your skills progress, we will take on more challenging material.

Do you have a song that youve always wanted to play? Bring it with you. I can show you how to play along at home!
